Sensory Box

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

In previous posts we have talked about the importance of organizing activities that enhance communication (see here), vocabulary development (see here) and the importance of multi-sensory activities (see here).

The sensory box is an activity/game that combines all of the strategies mentioned above. The activity can be differentiated according to the student's learning profile (see here).

For the activity we will need:

1) a box where we will hide the objects that aim to activate our 5 basic senses (smell, sight, taste, touch, hearing).

2) the visual aids ( smell, see, taste, touch, hear symbols) placed outside the box.

The adult to model the activity:

taste

look

smell

hear

touch

Student’s turn:

1 symbole outside the box- Student to choose and pick the visual/symbol

Student's turn:

2 symbols outside the box- the student to choose/request for the sense they want to explore.

Student's turn

all symbols outside the box- student to choose/request for the sense they want to explore.

Student's turn

All four senses at the same time

We will share more tips and activities in the future, so keep visiting us.
